Running RUMNUT under Windows 7

RUMNUT is written in VBasic6 on a computer that is running windows XP. Windows 7 will support such programs but needs to be told about compatibility.

The exact issues and requirements seem to differ from one computer and Windows7 version to another so only use the information below if you need to

Installing RUMNUT
  • Download the RUMNUT.EXE file into a folder on your computer. Double click to run the auto-install. If the auto install runs OK then that is great, if it does not then you need to make a WindowsXP compatible icon on the desk top.
  • Use Explorer to find the EXE file on your computer.
  • Now you need to change the compatibility of the RUMNUT.EXE program
  • Right click on the RUMNUT file name and select ‘Properties’ from the menu shown.
  • Click on the ‘Compatibility’ Tab
  • Check the box next to ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for:’
  • The box below will now be enabled, click on the down pointed triangle to show the options
  • Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the options
  • Under settings check the box next to ‘Disable display scaling on high DPI settings’ and the one below that to set to ‘Run this program as an administrator’
  • Click on Apply and then OK to close this form.
  • Now double click the RUMNUT file name to run it.
  • User Account Control may now ask you if RUMNUT.EXE can make changes to the computer. Click on Yes

  • RUNNING RUMNUT Modules
  • If you get error messages (such as Path/file access error) when you run a module you will need to alter the compatibility as above.
  • Right click on the required RUMNUT program icon and select Properties from the menu
  • Click on the Compatibility tab as before
  • Click on the ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for:’ check box and then select Windows XP (service Pack 2) as before.
  • Check the ‘Disable display scaling on high DPI settings’ and ‘Run this program as an administrator’ boxes as before
  • Apply settings as before then click on OK.
  • You will need to do this for all the RUMNUT icons in turn.
