Feeding the Dairy Cow courses

In 2015 we will be running two courses on dairy cow nutrition.

Level I

18 to 22 May 2015
Feeding the Dairy Cow - Principles and Practice

This short course is aimed at post-graduates who wish to develop their knowledge of ruminant nutrition. The emphasis is on problem solving and on gaining experience of diet formulation. The course is specifically designed for those who have recently become involved in giving on-farm advice including animal nutrition advisors, veterinary surgeons and teachers.

The objectives of the course are to establish a thorough working knowledge of nutrition and diet formulation. By the end of the course delegates will be able to solve practical problems based on a knowledge of nutritional theory and devise suitable rations for dairy cows.

Level II

23 to 26 June 2015

Feeding the Dairy Cow - Providing a full service to dairy clients

This highly-rated course is targeted at the post-experience level for delegates who have a sound knowledge of the principles of dairy cow nutrition.

A successful nutritional strategy is essential for the profitability of a dairy farm. The course aims are to provide a thorough understanding of all aspects of that strategy and how to apply them in practice. Topics include the principles and practices that govern; the choice of feeding system, feeds and diet formulation, feeding management and grazing, the monitoring of nutrition (including financial parameters) and the correction of nutritional related problems such as poor constituents and peri-parturient disease.

The course is lecture based but evening sessions will be primarily dedicated to workshops to allow delegates to develop their own skills.
